Interview

Hilda Sandström

Hilda Sandström is one of the most interesting and sought-after stylists of this period. Her style is truly unique and original. We at TheCornerZine managed to meet her between a set and a fashion show and stole some style tips from her.

Hi Hilda, tell us how your passion for fashion and styling came about?

I think my passion for fashion started early on as a child when I styled my barbie dolls; cutting, coloring their hair and putting on their outfits rather than playing with them. From the beginning it was more about hair and make up. I tried to make a couple of dresses and tops out of sheets, it was the combinations of color, form and materials that was the most interesting to me. I was very shy and didn’t want to stand out when I was younger and I think that resulted in me craving to create and explore style later on in life.

it’s so beautiful to be able to realise your ideas with like-minded people that you trust and share the same mindset with.

What is your ideal look for everyday life? What can't be missing in your look?

I always wear a pair of loose fitted denim, a tank top, a big blazer and loafers. However, if I’m in the studio I wear sneakers, it’s all about being comfortable!

Do you follow trends or do you prefer to create your own vision? What trend do you think should be followed this season?

I follow my own vision especially when it comes to my personal style but I love to create new worlds and concepts for different shoots and brands. Sometimes based on trends and sometimes based on other inspiration. I can’t help myself from falling in love with some of the latest trends though. I’m searching for a long denim skirt as we speak and I’m also obsessed with thin layered tops as Miu Miu showed us in their SS23 collection.

What was the work experience that made you most proud? Can you tell us how it went?

One of my proudest moments would be a show I styled about a year ago for my talented friend Jade Cropper. I did the styling, hair and make up direction and we also shot her lookbook on the same day. The process started way earlier though at her fist sketches when we sat down and started to talk about combinations, textiles and colours before the collection came to life. It was, as always, very stressful and a lot of problem solving during the day. Although it’s so beautiful to be able to realise your ideas with like-minded people that you trust and share the same mindset with.

If you had to choose one celebrity to work with, who would it be?

Hmm, maybe someone like Emma Corrin, Chloe Sevigny or Zoe Kravitz!

Your plans for 2023?

Work with more amazing creatives from all over the world. Move to Paris, visit Milan for the first time, eat a lot of good food and spend time with my loved ones!
