Marco Guazzone
On January 7, his new single "Al posto mio" was released. We were lucky enough to interview him and got to know him better. Don't waste a second, keep reading and enjoy this great interview.
To grow, music needs an audience and, surely, there's still someone out there who's ready to get excited about a song
Hi Marco, if you had to describe yourself with three adjectives, what ones would you use and why?
I’d say that I’m a dreamer, enterprising and nocturnal. The first is because I strongly believe in the power of dreams, in the power of imagination: it allows us to desire something and then understand what we can do to get it. Dreamers know that, at some point, you wake up and that’s when you have to go seek, and take, what you've dreamt of. Enterprising because I like to explore, I'm a traveler of both places and emotions. I'm always looking for opportunities and challenges that’ll push me out of my comfort zone, help me better understand who I am. Finally, I'm a nocturnal animal, as during the night I write, read, think and compose. It's my favourite time of the day.
How did your passion for music come about?
My dad is a huge music fan and, as a young man, he had a band and wrote songs, so I'd say it's something that runs in my veins. As a child, at home I was surrounded by excellent music (Lucio Battisti, Fabrizio De Andrè, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, etc.) and many instruments. When I was six, I developed an interest in the piano and, from there, it all started.
**If you hadn't become a musician, what would you have liked to do? **
I would’ve liked to be an astronaut.
One of your latest hits is “Con il senno di poi”, featuring Elisa. What was it like working with her? Was it the first time you had the chance to collaborate with her?
Working with Elisa was a dream come true, because she’s always inspired me greatly. The most incredible thing about this collaboration is that she found me on the internet. One day, a few years ago, I received an e-mail from Elisa inviting me to duet with her on a date of her tour. From that moment a beautiful musical exchange began, and we ended up working together on the production of my song. The days spent in the studio with her impacted me deeply, and being able to witness firsthand her working method was so intense and meaningful that it's filled all my subsequent works with new energy.
Is there an artist from the past you would’ve liked to do a duet with?
Lucio Dalla.
I'm honoured to have been able to sing this song because it's a hymn to love, a slogan for peace, universally known and recognised: its message is so clear and simple that it just can't be misunderstood.
What's the song you never get tired of and you could listen to endlessly?
"The Funeral" by Band Of Horses.
For "All You Need Is Love", the special project of TheCorner.com, you made your own version of a Beatles hit. Can you tell us how you created it?
It's always difficult to make a cover of an iconic song, let alone when you have to do it with a Beatles hit. Anyhow, I think that may be the key to reinterpreting such a famous and significant piece, overcoming the fear and responsibility of confronting your piece with the original track and creating a real tribute, that also tells something about your own world and musical style. I remade the piece without the stylistic elements that make it so recognisable. I simplified it as much as possible, with the intention of making the melody the absolute protagonist of this cover. I'm honoured to have been able to sing this song because it's a hymn to love, a slogan for peace, universally known and recognised: its message is so clear and simple that it just can't be misunderstood.
Speaking of fashion, how would you describe your style? What do you like to wear for your performances?
I'm no good at lying, so I'll shamelessly confess that, in terms of style and fashion, I'm totally incapable! Fortunately, because of my work I'm often surrounded by very talented professionals who save me and always dress me in a very cool way (exactly like in this case!). When I'm alone, in order not to make mistakes, I just go for a total black outfit.
What're your plans for the future?
I’ll finally release new music in January 2022. This year I’ve been lucky enough to work on important soundtracks, so I can't wait to write a new chapter of my story. It's a song about who I am now as a musician and person.
If you had to give advice to a person who wants to start working as a singer or musician, what would you say?
I'd recommend publishing your works right away, without thinking too much about it. It's the best business card. And to do this, I'd suggest making the most out of the tools available on the market, from simple intuitive softwares to create and produce music to social networks to promote it, because they're the best and most effective tools of the new generations. To grow, music needs an audience and, surely, there's still someone out there who's ready to get excited about a song
