Interview

Vittoria De Carlo

Vittoria De Carlo is an art director with her nose in the air and her feet pretty firmly on the ground. We TheCorner.com met her and got a better understanding of her style and what she thinks of Milan.

Hi Vittoria, can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Vittoria, and I'm an art director based in Milan. Even if I had to define myself, I would prefer to describe myself as a creative.

Working with images is a kind of obsession or gift for me, it is as if I have a third eye that always leads me to notice the little things around me.

When in life did you realise you wanted to pursue a creative path and what were the influences that set your creativity in motion?

I grew up in a creative environment, I'm the daughter of two architects. It was my grandfather’s saying; 'always keep your nose up and your feet on the ground’, that influenced me the most.

What does working with images mean to you? And how did the idea of collages come about?

Working with images is a kind of obsession or gift for me, it is as if I have a third eye that always leads me to notice the little things around me. My camera is not very happy because I take more or less 15 to 20 pictures a day. The idea of collages comes from the idea of juxtaposing even everyday images that I find and see with each other and creating a connection by mixing them or finding a link between them.

What elements cannot be missing in your creative space and how much has fashion influenced and does it influence your personality?

My creative space certainly cannot be without good light, good perfume, perhaps from my candles, my incense, beautiful music, and possibly bare feet. Fashion, for me, is a combination of worlds linked together, it definitely has to do with the world of food, and interior space. That's what fashion is to me.

Define your style in three words.

My style in three words would definitely be free, I like what I like, Mediterranean or, summery, I could live in a sarong and flip-flops year round, eclectic or spontaneous, I'm at four though, yes, I feel comfortable with a pair of men's loafers as well as in a Barbie miniskirt.

Milan is the city you chose to live in. I’d like to know as an art director, what look would you associate with Milan of 2023?

Milan, is a city I love to hate. It's definitely home, and the place where I’ll be based for the next few years, but I’m not sure I will stay here to live forever. If I had to associate a look with today's Milan, I’d say it's a woman in comfortable denim, possibly a denim skirt, a pair of loafers for ease, a oversized blazer and a man's shirt. Finished off with beautiful sunglasses, and of course, with a pop of lipstick.
