Gi0ele

Gi0ele, with a zero instead of an o, is a young singer-songwriter and lover of art in all its forms who entertains 44,000 people every day via his IG profile. We at TCZ had a conversation with Gi0ele and asked him to describe his relationship with Milan and fashion.

Hi Gi0ele, if you had to make an introduction of yourself to someone you know, what would you say?

I’m an artist happily understood by the music I write; the images I create; the clothes I wear and the way I tell my story. Entering my world is not a difficult thing at all. I always keep my arms open sharing a big part of myself every day through my work. I dream big, but I still have plenty of time to grow and make mistakes. At the end of the day, I’m a child discovering the world but with a well-thought-out outfit.

I try to listen to myself as much as possible. To understand all those moments growing up that left their mark on me and then I turn those emotions into a story in which someone will be able to mirror themselves

You recently moved from Vicenza to Milan: how have you experienced this change? Do you feel any differently?
Milan changed my life and continues to do so every day. I've always liked to think of Milan as a person: at times there’s love, other times there’s fighting, and sometimes it's good to take a break from each other for a while. It has certainly not been easy to understand and appreciate it for what it really is; for better or for worse. This city can be both loving and fierce. You just have to know how to live it. I feel reborn and so grateful for the journey that brought me here. I admit I’ve changed, and my friends think so too, but into a better version of myself. I don't know where the wind will take me in the coming years, but I do know that I’m in the right place at the right time, and I’ve found a beacon to return to.

We know you’re a songwriter, where do you get your inspiration for writing your lyrics?
Whenever I feel the need to write a song, I always come up with a different story. I think about a person, an atmosphere, the world around me, the beauty of days, small things and my feelings. I try to listen to myself as much as possible. To understand all those moments growing up that left their mark on me and then I turn those emotions into a story in which someone will be able to mirror themselves. For me, music, apart from being a fusion with the universe, is a direct exchange of our inner selves for both those who sing and those who listen and love it. I love to tell my relationship with music and writing in an extremely romantic way because I have not yet found a more powerful art than this.

How’d you describe your relationship with fashion?

I would define my relationship with fashion as a big freedom. As a child, I loved to help my mother choose clothes, I never missed the opportunity to express my taste and thoughts. Today, not much has changed. However, I realised the true importance of being able to transform even a simple outfit into a story, or an entire personality. Fashion lives and we give it life. In any case, I believe that fashion’s also an art form: a tale of a thousand cultures and flowing history. It has now become a job for me, but, in my eyes it’s never lost its charm.

If you had to describe your personality with any song which one would you choose and why?

At this precise moment in my life I’d mention George Michael and his 'Freedom'. This song represents the freedom of being able to be myself all the time. ‘Love is a losing game’ by my favourite artist in the universe: Amy Winehouse. It perfectly describes my sentimental and almost melancholic side.

How do you imagine yourself in five years from now, both on a work, and personal level?
I’m good at creating imaginary scenarios in my head, but I hardly ever actually ask myself this question. I’ve goals and I’m sure that by working on them and having a bit of luck I’ll be able to turn all my dreams into reality. In five years, today, I’d like to be at the soundcheck of my tour and be able to really realise how much has changed in the last few years. I’d like to wake up every morning and make love to music, to still have all the people important to me by my side to share my joys, and sorrows with them. I’d like to travel, forever be inspired by the world, and to do so without ever losing the curiosity that makes me dream today.
